BlockHeadz Grass BiciPolo Tournament - July 10

BlockHeadz Grass Bike Polo Tournament

Saturday, July 10th in Glenwood Springs, CO.

9 teams maximum.

Entry Fee - $15 / team early, $20 day of event.  e-mail bicipolo@greenlinearchitects.com to register.

Round Robin for seeding in the morning, 10:00-2:00 down by the river, below the GWHS track.   Then, 2:00 SIESTA.  (lounge in the river, or head over to the hot springs pool for the afternoon)  At 6:00 we start the tourney at Sayre Park.  At 8:00, the lights come on, and we play semis and finals under the lights!  Lights out at 10:00 PM.  Finals will be called at that time if necessary.
Teams will be of 4 people.  1 sub is allowed per team.
Seeded double elimination bracket.
Games are to 3 points.  Must win by 2.
Semis and finals are to 5 points.  Must win by 2.
Goal size is roughly 5 ft. wide, with cones!
If'n you can't reach the ball with a mallet at the goal line then its too high and no good.
If'n you play the ball backwards through the goal, you must relinquish possession to the other team.
The field is roughly 40 yards by 75 yards.  Dirt and grass in the morning, grass in the evening.
Teams may play goalies if they want.  It seems to be a good idea when you've got Chainsaw bearing down on you constantly.  But sometimes, it limits you on offense, so not always a good call if you play good position!
Contact allowed:
Stick-on-stick, bike-on-bike, man-on-man.
Ref your own game.
We start the ball in the middle and face off.  Teams must circle their goal after scoring.  The opposing team may advance the ball as necessary immediately after a goal.  i.e.: "Comin' HOT!"
Foot down rule:  If you put your foot down, you must get out of the play and do one full pedal revolution before being able to play the ball again.
Respect the player with the ball.  You may not run him off his line to the goal.  You may stick check, from either side.  You may get out in front of him, but no T-boning, and by no means should you contemplate any head-on action. (I know you know this...)
HELMETS are required.  Face-guards are strongly recommended.
There are great camping options available and host housing will also be arranged.
Costumes are of course, mandatory.

e-mail bicipolo@greenlinearchitects.com to register.

Check out the last line of this WuTang lyric...
Coincidence? Foreboding?  Or just good planning? Most likely, I was just out of the loop, and Wu Tang had as much influence as Joanna Newsome in the naissance of the brigade.

Too Bad Soo Sad

Been a fan of Danny Schecter the News Dissector for a while now and was sad to read todays post about the dissolution of the 24 yr old GlobalVision project that has attempted to bring more transparency to the news. The energy disperses into other websites, amped status, and global vision but without the physical base and financial backing. Onwards and upwards and backwards and downwards and round and round and down and down, Thanks Danny

5.22.2010

The taller they are...

I keep telling people that you have lots of time to think about how you're going to contact the ground when you fall off the tall bike.  It was bound to happen, too.  I mean, I was trying to wheelie it...  and I don't do wheelies all that well on small bikes.

But the will to avoid serious injury is a strong one...

As stompaz around the world observe daily, there is always time to tuck and roll!
(and ripping the SZ vest of doomdom is of course, unthinkable)

Skuke

This is Skuke, aka Payton Wong, our bud from CA, who came and visited us when we lived in Japan.

One time, when Payton and I were working on tightening the bearings on my hub, I asked him how much to tighten it.  He said, "Go until it won't turn at all, then back it off a bit."

Here, he's rollin through the Grizzly Peak century in the Oakland Hills.

WHoa

YEsterday was looking up. After a morning court date in Delta to deal with a speeding ticket in my friends rocketship i was back in tride and Stash asked if I'd care to join him and Pete Garber for a ride in Cortez. Yup, lookin' up. Beautiful day for shreddin at Phil's world. Three steel 29'r hard tails rallyin' around. Upon stopping at one point i mentioned discovering a crack in my old Niner frame and Pete looked down to see a Huge crack in his Soma Juice. Downtube juncture with headtube, above the underside gusset all the way around to the other side. oh snap! Well having forgotten, among other things, my helmet, I also didn't have a camera to catch the expression. Then a matter of moments later, riding around to meet Pete making his way gingerly back, I started to here awful creaking noises, although I was gradually climbing and didn't experience a big impact in particular, reaching down to the top tube where I'd broken my last SiR9 and just put some tape on over my front cable guide, i felt something. Proceeding to shred I couldn't really ignore the noise and after a bit I had a look under the tape. Same crack as last time, running around the top tube from the front side of the front brake cable guide, with about a centimeter of material remaining intact on top, which of course is plenty. Oh SnAp! Well since I didn't discover the last crack until i got home I figured I'd ride it and see if the entire top tube sheered which it didn't, so aaanyway. WArRaNTY!!!!! maybe they'll opt for internal cable routing this time. Good thing I've got an xtracycle race this weekend and pugsley tour next week and a big hammer for niner dis-assembly.

fruita tour

So STompAZ, here's a tour, ,
135 Mi to Fruita I mean seriously NiRad will probably do ten times that in 18 horas..
Sweriously though, if we busted a solid 80 mi or so from G-wood on Thursday morn then camped out in the middle of Colbran way, we could ride in Friday Morn 50 down river to Fruita, take a lil nap and be ready to STomp @ Midnight .. . so anyway there's that We could ride wed eve and spend it longer, who can?

As you know, sometimes the stomp stomps us and if this plan proves to problematic, so be it.

Good idea.

Highline Lake STate Park,  for our campsite, #27, WEd & Thur BEFORE the Fruita Race.  Turns out NiRad is racing, and the rest of us are chasing him, in a supportive, constructive kind of way, of course.  Like by throwing water balloons from the canoe..

So, get there early...  and set up the tramp.  If any one asks, you're Stevesie G. Novy, III.

This blatant squatting action, combined with some sweettalkin' to the campground host & hostess... (they like pastries)  and we should be good.

Trash talken Social Democrat Prez Obama aint afraid to talk some shit with his stoney grin. I personally dont know crap about our new health care overhaul bill, but i do know it attempts to cover sick people and attempts not to start any homophobic gunbattles in space. This isn't 'Nam Karl Romney, there are rules. Welcome to earth.

P.s. I think the guy in the back has a crush on the goofy girl in the front. They should exchange information...could be good.

P.P.S. "Do you guys have any copies of THe Communist Manifesto?....I just need to ... never mind."

"I'll just grab a copy of David Byrne's "UH oh," and some gum..do you have gum...or cigarettes. ...Ill just take the cigarettes....... thanks."

Tour Defiance

It may be hard to convey exactly how much energy was produced in last night's conquering of the pitches at Sunlight.  That's right I said, pitches.

There must have been a gravity discrepancy.

WiNverso brought up the polo bike, a fixee sans breagks.  I was purrty amazed at how much he was able to ride.  We criss-crossed our turns up the hill.  Will was going wide...  making big switchbacks, and Sz was going straight up the gut...  or making little slalom S turns.   Drawing an uphill line on a slope-alope is an art form.

The unleashed-but-chained snowcat pugsley, gripping...

The last pitch was the cruxofit. Sz just HAD to take a break about 60 feet from the top.  As if by levitation, he was able to get started on the hill again. (with a few grunts and well-timed revolutions)  Completely treadful results.  Legs were the weak point in that system...  though to be fair to those old stumps, Sz DID stay with Will.  Only because Will kept heckling said Sz.

Officially, there are a total 30 feet of terrain that have not been ascended in the appropriate manner.

Sz, Tim, Cody, and Will  had planned to go down GRizZLY, the way we came up, but on the way Heavy Metal Cody says, "We're going down Defiance!"  Surprised,  I say, "No way, I'm not going down Defiance."  He reiterates, "We are going down Defiance."  I think, "Whatever."  Turns out we were ON Defiance already.  (Upper Defiance, to be specific) Off-camber, and rolling to the left, it was the fastest, gknarliest descent.  One leg on the slope, one foot on a pedal, a stomach on seat, and an ear to the ground.  Once I could see Grizzly Road, I just let it go.

Holy B'Jeezus.

You all deserve a trophy.

NiRad and Kendall built up that Pugzley for the good of all stompaz.  Stop by the gear exchange and give the Pugz a shot one of these nights...  NiRad's taken 'er out WEd next veek.  Hollenback, you next after that?  (Tour Defiance is the sweetest name for an event in G'wood.  K-Rad and NiRad get ALL the credit...  but what will it be?)

Why i luv Kunstler

All I can offer, really, are observations: for example, that Congressman John Boehner (R -Ohio) needs a set of steel ball bearings to roll around in his hand to perfect his otherwise dead-on impersonation of Captain Queeg, the paranoid villain of that 1950s movie The Caine Mutiny. I kept wishing that President Obama would reach under the table for a fungo bat every time the miserable Mr. Boehner opened his Midwestern pie-hole to drone out a new lie, and split his fucking head open like a Crenshaw melon -- but perhaps my fantasies are excessively baroque.

James Kunstler today
