Tapin is a straight up Slapptastic affair, but thank the good lord baby whatever he (her) is, that the Slappster was kind enough to bring that artform to the table. And while I may have been misinformed about sizers and all that, I been tapin a bit small scale, but that's been good. So here's a freshy sampler of what is goin on at least right hear right now. 1/4 meets 1/8 meets 1/16. Messy bit of whatnot that is. But lookit, lookit the colors.

In attempts to fight it off, bikes continue to be ridden on dry and not so dry singletrack. A nice gaggle of Tellyriderz' made it out of town at the crack of noon yesterday, and down to Philz' world, where the parking lot was full and the shreddn' was sweeet. Dolores Brewpub never fails to cap off a ride in the part of the world.

Prior to that, heading into Paonia en route back from the front range, we passed a big new sign for 'Galaxy', a bike shop of some sort. We then had dinner at the Flying Fork and some folks came and sat on the other side of the glass and proceeded to make funny faces at us. Upon our departure John hopped up and came to discuss the Pugz on the car and how we needed to come check out the as yet unopened Galaxy shop. No prob, I'll happily check out any bike shop. Well Galaxy is sweet with multiple owners in a rambling downtown Paonia home, where John has parked his school bus that has served as his mobile bike shop for a while. Paintings and sculptures are already up in the shop, and they had maps of the trail system. Which is sweet. Only problem was, mid November things are awesome down low, and after just enough climbing on sweet singletrack the soil suddenly turned to mud so sticky there was no going. Of course having gotten up there I continued to carry my stuffed bike with pounds of mud on each foot until i realized i was going back down. IN anyevent, that trail system will get a thorough stompin' as soon as the time comes next spring. And i can't wait to see how Galaxy is doing.

Man did I have a sweet ride on the pave. Glorious pavement that ascends past a lil private road sign up in to the precious mega mansion subdivisions on the sunny side, up and up. And hot fast and tight on the DH, boy was the Cooper pumped.

And this goofalope, sold me the Karate monkey for Hilary since he bought it too small, then he bought Stash's old Spot 9'r belt drive SS. Well signs point to him not knowing how to ride. Case in point, Porcupine rim descent led to crushing the Spot, down tube kinked one way, top tube kinked the other, and he walked away. Whoa.

In other news, Don rode his Karate monkey for the first time yesterday, and despite a long standing bike fleet, he'd never ridden mill creek, and boy did he get his on day one. Right near the bottom of the Jud, pile driver. Still walkin and talkin though, which is nice.

We flexed a little bicipolo muscle down in Fort Quollins for the Colorado Cup. Although the Stompaz didn't win the cup, we played great and as Will said, "did amazing things."
We beat the Belfry Boys handily, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon. Sz got his shot on, well, almost.
We went to the finals against the Durango Malletheads and Sz did score on them, which was a first. It was an under-Bailey's-bike shot that hit the back of the net hard, untouched. ...and there were 2 or 3 long shots that were SO CLOSE! Dang! Second place ain't so bad. We've been improving since that first Lyons Tourney where we got 4th, and since our 3rd place showing in Durango at SSWC. We won the Blockheadsz Tourney in Glenwood Springs, which will have asterisk next to it since neither of the defending champ teams was there! Whatev. R.

9 boyz and 4 quasi-adults braved the sunshine to ride in Fruita this past weekend.

Of the 9 or so fish we caught, we kept 6, all of which Sz cleaned successfully without cutting his fingers off. But between the obnoxious feral cats, the late hour at which they were cooked and Erik's crying incessantly about his peenie hurting, (Blake had kicked him in the nuts earlier) only a couple were actually eaten. Boy were they good.

Hollenback chilled me out on a great Loma/Horse Thief Loop, we had numerous cruiser rides around the campground, and Julia actually rode the Big Dummy.

Thanks be to the Harmony and the Blessings that saw MattY make it to Tellride along with the likes of Isla and Brad, for a lovely weekend awaited.
Matty demonstrated the vastness of his STOMpability in getting on the Pugsley for the first time and riding up to the Bridal Veil power plant for the party, where as he stomped me up the climb he remarked that i needed to breathe, despite the passage of vehicles. Then in the five hour and 3 hour versions of Stompaz in action over the next two days, he remained powerfully on the front drillin' it on the Pugz all weekend long. Thanks to Nirad for sending it down so Matty could get the Pugz bug once and for all.
And how can you go wrong with this guy?
Shreddin the Clown Wagon all the live long day, Skotty2Hotty sure was welcome when he moseyed on over from Duhrango for some last minute leafness.

Weirdest thing that's happened to my bike in a while. Roostin' along Alta lakes on Saturday and all of a sudden, Whooo Wha HWaWHA?! Riding along a straight narrow piece of singletrack quickly, and all of a sudden massive front wheel skid... managed to stomp it off without crashing

And just like that my tyre is not on the rim and my tube is all whomped out and expanding. So of course as i go to let the air out i gotta take some pictures too.. And somehow a rock had managed to wedge itself between the rim and the tyre was pinched against the far sidewall with a rock of such perfect size that i had to pry it out of there and the rim was more or less fine. Did i mention i've never really trusted specialized tyres ever since i watched Skotty roll his and crack his knee/skull in moab? Well the 2.3 Eskar just got on my shit list! Planning on getting them sweet stanz tubeless rims and rockin' the Rampage once again since it's about as sweet a tyre as i've ever had on da niner and the new wtb niner tyre 'Bronson' also kicks ass and at 2.2 is pretty much big enough for stompN. . anyway i proceeded to get a pinch flat on my rear kenda nevegal which hasn't been much of a tyre this summer either. . dang give me 4.o or give me rollerbladeZ!

Ophir Pass Hill Climb

Sunday Mornin' bright and early-ish, might as well go STomP the Shite out of it. Ophir Pass rises 2500' in three miles from Ophir SE and the annual low-key event may or may not draw snow or be won by runners or bikers. This mornin was beautiful and what ever advantage the Pugz may have had on snow was not to be known. As it was Petey Dahl went up the hill in 39 min and the next one across was on foot at fourty minutes. Snap

Some radical sprint finishes. I may or may not have been the last one to work on the green blur on the right but when he missed his shift in the sprint and was pipped by the 15 yr old ti Diamond back rider, I took no responsibility.

Just like that, Bailey finished his house sitting operation in DuhranGo and we were out the door with Pugz up to Telluride. Got in Monday eve in time to throw some stuff together and go get on KotO for StompRADio. Despite playing the soothing sounds till midnight, we remained enamored with our plan to leave after the show, and so we did. The waning moon had more than enough power and had been ups ince 11:30 or so and on fairly laden Pugz we sidled into the cave where the pain is kept. The road up Bridal Veil falls to the power plant is steep but well traveled and a nice introduction to what awaits. Prodoperz may recall riding Wasatch and being able to pedal the single speed up that part. Once you pass through the gate and past the powerplant the grade and erosion turn the road into more of a challenge. The moon was amazing though and without lights the climb was as modestly punishing as perhaps possible hauling that much ass.
After 3 or four hours of climbing we ascended into the bottom of the Bridal Veil basin, just out of sight of town, and found a nice little camp on a knob at tree line where we slept hard. The next morning after sleeping log like till we felt like it, we continued our ascent through the basin. Sadly D00m followed us that evening on my Xtracycle and came to the juncture where Lewis Mine and Wasatch diverge and couldn't see our tracks. That's because they're Pugz track and we were off piste reveling in the glory of high altitude exploratory follow the leader. To the back of the basin we went, were Crack rock camp awaited us, with grass so soft we were wandering around barefoot. Given that this was a pre pugz tour before the next one, we'll remember to bring things like, beer, sketching materials/signage, and less batteries. After an unladen and glorious tour around the basin we retired again, and awoke to more miraculous weather. Loaded and primed, we rode the pugz to the base of the climb over to Columbine lake, hiked over and around said amazing lake, and agreed that a high altitude lake snorkeling project is indeed the best idea yet, before returning for the descent. So close, so glorious, and so thoroughly stompariffic. This tour will take place again. You should be there, self supported Pugz and a desire to slog it up a very steep hill for 4 hours, with maybe a 22x36 in the future.

Thanks to Bike-Wild Crew for the win in the 8-person Open Class yesterday at the 12 Hours of Snowmass. Let's hear it for the antlered shredders: The Great White Hope, Getty,Kazzy, Sarah, Brittany, Aaron Dallas, Chris Romeyn and yourSz truelee.
At 4:20, they told me that we were in 2nd place, behind by 24 minutes! (so, either we had a couple of fast laps late, or we were ahead the whole day...) To be fair, there were only 2 teams in the Open Class, but we were told there were 3, so we beat the non-existent ghost team, too!
Will I AM Inverso gets accolades and fanfare and donuts for leading out the solo singlespeeders for most of the day, smashing through a brick wall to get into the pain cave, and still hanging on for 3rd!
NiRad came in with a very respectable 5th in Solo Single; in Men's Solo, Randy Mason got 6th and Double R Double T got 10th! Les resultats.

Michael Hayes' Honey Stinger Trio Co-Ed team won their class, too.

Bike-Wild also raised over $600 for the Aspen Youth Center! So, thanks to everyone for your generous donations.

Fresh off the Raggeds trail last weekend we had a mere 8 bikes and 8 people we had to stuff in the truck, watch us do it!! niRAD
Oh and the Raggeds is in killer shape, not too many trees down (10 or so?!) so there was incredible flow at times, technical at times and straight up hike a bike!! super fun, killer group of friends riding in party'o'vascular style, stompin at its finest!!

Whoa was that sweet. . another glorious day of STOMPN.. en route to bonedale from tellyride STompaz demonstrated once again where timing and preparation come together, shuttling a vehicle to ride the Raggeds trail from the top of McClure. Eight friendly stmpz in all, and no camera, perfect day with a minimum of downed trees, plenty of up as well as down, lots of rad singletrack, and best of all, a trail that almost none of us had ridden and a shred alert till the cooler. After that, we dispatched the cooler contents and packed eight bikes and riders into one rather mid size truck. And as a bonus we stopped at the magnificent YaYa tree house on the way back down the Crystal to check it out. Onwards and upwards!

All downhill from here at the top of Bridal Veil Basin, where Scotty2 won the bacon chocolate bar for impeccable hill climbing. Granted, the top that he reached first was a trick top that looked down on Ophir and we came back to the Wasatch trail saddle, but he won, despite Justin bringing the ruckus all the way from Silverton

Timing and Preparation come together at the PROdoperZTour with the 4:20 am prologue road race acually taking place at 4:20 pm on Sunday; Scooba on the attack Pugs.

The ladies comp was fairly convivial, with Hilary taking the big W through her ability to supply us with the most important dope throughout, lasagna.

Had an amazing visit to Cortes island in the British Canadian San Juan's and did a sweet ride with Ryan, on his loaned 15+ yr old Rocky Mtn rental bike, so killer, here's Charris standing on it nailing a sign for a new trail that Ryan (in the V1 pro ) and company built. They're building trails all over the logging properties so as to directly engage the logging companies and fight the clear cutting plans. More trails and an event seem to be on the radar, STompaz would do well to get up there and get after it. . . peas

BlockHeadz Grass Bike Polo Tournament

Saturday, July 10th in Glenwood Springs, CO.

9 teams maximum.

Entry Fee - $15 / team early, $20 day of event. e-mail bicipolo@greenlinearchitects.com to register.

Round Robin for seeding in the morning, 10:00-2:00 down by the river, below the GWHS track. Then, 2:00 SIESTA. (lounge in the river, or head over to the hot springs pool for the afternoon) At 6:00 we start the tourney at Sayre Park. At 8:00, the lights come on, and we play semis and finals under the lights! Lights out at 10:00 PM. Finals will be called at that time if necessary.

Teams will be of 4 people. 1 sub is allowed per team.

Seeded double elimination bracket.

Games are to 3 points. Must win by 2.

Semis and finals are to 5 points. Must win by 2.

Goal size is roughly 5 ft. wide, with cones!

If'n you can't reach the ball with a mallet at the goal line then its too high and no good.

If'n you play the ball backwards through the goal, you must relinquish possession to the other team.

The field is roughly 40 yards by 75 yards. Dirt and grass in the morning, grass in the evening.

Teams may play goalies if they want. It seems to be a good idea when you've got Chainsaw bearing down on you constantly. But sometimes, it limits you on offense, so not always a good call if you play good position!

Contact allowed:

Stick-on-stick, bike-on-bike, man-on-man.

Ref your own game.

We start the ball in the middle and face off. Teams must circle their goal after scoring. The opposing team may advance the ball as necessary immediately after a goal. i.e.: "Comin' HOT!"

Foot down rule: If you put your foot down, you must get out of the play and do one full pedal revolution before being able to play the ball again.

Respect the player with the ball. You may not run him off his line to the goal. You may stick check, from either side. You may get out in front of him, but no T-boning, and by no means should you contemplate any head-on action. (I know you know this...)

HELMETS are required. Face-guards are strongly recommended.

There are great camping options available and host housing will also be arranged.

Costumes are of course, mandatory.

I keep telling people that you have lots of time to think about how you're going to contact the ground when you fall off the tall bike. It was bound to happen, too. I mean, I was trying to wheelie it... and I don't do wheelies all that well on small bikes.

But the will to avoid serious injury is a strong one...

As stompaz around the world observe daily, there is always time to tuck and roll!
(and ripping the SZ vest of doomdom is of course, unthinkable)

YEsterday was looking up. After a morning court date in Delta to deal with a speeding ticket in my friends rocketship i was back in tride and Stash asked if I'd care to join him and Pete Garber for a ride in Cortez. Yup, lookin' up. Beautiful day for shreddin at Phil's world. Three steel 29'r hard tails rallyin' around. Upon stopping at one point i mentioned discovering a crack in my old Niner frame and Pete looked down to see a Huge crack in his Soma Juice. Downtube juncture with headtube, above the underside gusset all the way around to the other side. oh snap! Well having forgotten, among other things, my helmet, I also didn't have a camera to catch the expression. Then a matter of moments later, riding around to meet Pete making his way gingerly back, I started to here awful creaking noises, although I was gradually climbing and didn't experience a big impact in particular, reaching down to the top tube where I'd broken my last SiR9 and just put some tape on over my front cable guide, i felt something. Proceeding to shred I couldn't really ignore the noise and after a bit I had a look under the tape. Same crack as last time, running around the top tube from the front side of the front brake cable guide, with about a centimeter of material remaining intact on top, which of course is plenty. Oh SnAp! Well since I didn't discover the last crack until i got home I figured I'd ride it and see if the entire top tube sheered which it didn't, so aaanyway. WArRaNTY!!!!! maybe they'll opt for internal cable routing this time. Good thing I've got an xtracycle race this weekend and pugsley tour next week and a big hammer for niner dis-assembly.

otra blogz having just spoken with a STompA who went off BUNNYhawkN in Seattle, Justin that is, whose lovely wife Anna (alsoSTOMPA) just gave birth to a ten foot tall baby bunnyHAWK named Swift; i was reminded of an old family friend named EM Swift. A longtime sports writer, his blog has an old SI story about going on a MTB ride with my Dad in VT. Checkit. .

As well as the QuollaBaerZ blog where my brobraTRICERahopZ has dropped some real nice tunes for DL. . .

aaaand, i sure wish the aprilFoolN snow stormZ would knock it off in T-ride and we could get back to great and glorious spring weather. . .
